Tantra Yoga is a practice that combines stretching, controlled breathing, and relaxation. It helps reduce stress, lower blood pressure, improve heart function, and calm body, mind, and spirit.
Tantra, is a two thousand year old science/art from India. Tantra teaches couples how to enter present moment awareness for sharing energetic openness of their bodies as a sacrament of living love. Tantra is not about better sex (though that certainly will happen); it is about creating deeper connection. Tantrikas awaken second chakra energy, combine it with heart energy of the fourth chakra, and raise that powerful current of sexual-compassionate energy to the crown chakra for conscious divine communion. Tantric practice of sacred sexuality intensifies and circulates procreative orgasmic life-force energy as a means of healing, renewing, and revitalizing ourself and our partner ( "chi", "ki" or "prana").
Chakras are the body's energetic centers associated with seven major bioelectric junctions of nerve ganglia or "Nadis" distributed along the length of the spine. The word chakra itself refers to "wheel" or "spinning disc". Our spinning discs of bioelectric energy work much like a computer disc for storing information on our body tissue "hard drive". Simply put, tissues store issues. Opening our chakras with yoga postures (asanas), vocalization and breathing techniques, combined with tantric massage, releases painful energy blockages and stuck negative emotions.
Your body's "erased disc" now has free space for writing currents of pleasant sensations and storing loving emotions of completeness. Tantric practices provide an effective means for sexual healing by experiencing the light of unconditional love that dispels personal darkness. Sexual healing is the prerequisite of energetic bodily openness for celebrating tantric union. Tantra is not about the techniques you "do". It is about entering into a state of unconditional love, presence, and sacred alertness for sharing. It is more about "being" than "doing". Joining another in a state of sacred alertness and unconditional love is the fresh and formless gift of healing light delivered from one heart to another by the tantric messenger.
Energy Movement. The creation life force energy that enters the biological realm at conception is called Kundalini energy. Yogic tradition compares Kundalini to an energetic snake that lies coiled and sleeping at the base of the spine. The purpose of Tantric and Kundalini forms of yoga is to arouse this dormant energy and cause it to rise up through each increasingly more subtle chakra to the crown of the head where union with pure trans-personal awareness (God) is realized ("realized" means "it has always been there, now I see it in me"). Recognizing arousal of Kundalini energy as a primary objective, and understanding how Tantric interactions support awakening Kundalini energy, are two important wisdom factors that guide practice.
Open Chakras Promote Happiness and Well-Being. The heart chakra is very important for feeling human fulfillment -- and an energetic imbalance between chakras is a continuous feeling of dissatisfaction, no matter what you do. If the heart chakra is out of balance, we lose touch with feelings of harmony and joyous sensations. This dissatisfaction allows unhappiness to grow, which often leads to looking outside the self for happiness.
The "western" approach to this imbalance is to "outsource" personal happiness to seek fulfillment through persons, places, or things outside of the "self". This disempowering because we unwittingly give away access to our indwelling personal power and become dependent on conditional circumstances that can never make us complete. Tantrikas must first awaken within the self by recognizing that happiness is the child of completeness. Completeness is always present in the stillness of "now".
When we focus our thoughts on memories of past experiences and retell our stories to ourselves, energy flows to the head without opening the heart. Void of nurturing feelings of the heart, anxiety arises from a state of disconnected energetic discord. Therefore, the more we create our sense of "self" with our thoughts (our "story", our personal drama), the more readily our primary feelings become obscured with secondary emotions born of reactionary mental chatter. Secondary emotions are poor conduits of love. They lack fresh primary awareness and leave us with feelings of hopeless victimization and blame for the outsourced roots of our problems. The inner voice cries, "They robbed me of my happiness". Fear and its variants, anger, envy, worry, jealousy, hate, etc., all replace openheartedness.
